Sad to end on a Negative Note

Over the past couple of weeks Maroun, Matthew and I have been blogging about the supposed three best Charcoal Chicken Eateries in Western Syndey being La Mono, Awafi and El Jannah. I too have been reading these blogs and decided it was time for me to swallow my pride and make the long, treacherous and dangerous journey to El Jannah. I was promised by Matthew of creamy toum, moist chicken, fresh tabouli, crunchy and crisp chips and most of all fantastic customer service. But how wrong was I. The chicken was so burnt that i might as well have been eating pieces of Charcoal, the toum lacked the kick of 'garlic' which it is supposed to be made out of, the tabouli was dry and tasted as if it was made a week ago and the chips were cold and over salted. However the one saving grace was the pickles, it was sour, salty and had a great crunch to it. These were the best pickles Ive ever eaten. Now you may be saying that my opinion is biased because I have never enjoyed other types of Chicken apart from La Mono's. This is true. Hence why I brought a neutral third party with me, being in the form of a close friend called Christian Eriksen. He too had the same experience and said "I've never been so appalled when it comes to Charcoal Chicken". Take that as you will but im sure by now you believe me that La Mono is the place to go.

Awafi - The mother of all Charcoal Chicken Eateries

Who started the charcoal chicken craze? It was the holy grail of all charcoal chicken shops, Awafi. In 1998, 2 couples opened a charcoal chicken shop in Grandville. Simon and Samira Azzi established a franchise alongside another couple, Andre and Carole Estephan, called Awafi. The charcoal chicken craze was establsihed in the homes of many Lebanese Australians, however never to be heard of in restaurants and eateries. These couples saw an opportunity that has led to multiple successful shops in the western Sydney region. As business started to pick up, the Estephans left the business and started their own franchise now known as El Jannah.
